MBI Al Jaber Sponsors the International Media Awards 2010

On behalf of MBI International, Chairman MBI Al Jaber is proud to be the main sponsor of the sixth annual International Media Awards.

Journalists from across the Middle East and Europe gathered for the 2010 International Media Awards ceremony held at the Oxford & Cambridge Club on Pall Mall in central London on Saturday the 8th of May.

The award ceremony, hosted by Lord Stone of Blackheath, was attended by diplomats and senior figures from British and Middle Eastern media. Lord Stone told reporters, “The Media Awards are awarded to journalists and broadcasters who, through the consistently high standard of their work, promote better understanding of the people and politics of the Middle East..."

The International Media Awards are a salute to journalists, editors, broadcasters and bloggers working in the Middle East. Each award is presented to an individual who has raised the standards of journalism in reporting on the Middle East and who is a tribute to their field.

The awards are divided into four categories:

The Peace Through Media Award, a recognition of the work of established media figures who have had an extremely positive and lasting impact on coverage of the Middle East.
The Cutting Edge Award is an acknowledgement of the work of media professionals who have recently risen to prominence through the outstanding quality of their work and their balanced and considered coverage.
The Breakaway Award encourages new talent, particularly in the fields of internet news and citizen journalism.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, for a figure who has had a long and distinguished career in the media, and who has during this time worked tirelessly for the promotion of better understanding.
The International Media Awards are presented to dedicated journalists who promote better understanding of the people of the Middle East. This issue lies close to MBI Al Jaber’s heart. As an ardent philanthropist, he also strives to promote greater understanding and to build bridges between the Middle East and the wider world, both through the MBI Al Jaber Foundation and through his personal philanthropic activities.

Through this event, MBI Al Jaber is honoured to help promote the Next Century Foundation’s work towards peace and reconciliation in the Middle East and their efforts towards recognising journalists working in the Middle East.

The International Media Awards are organised under the auspices of the International Council for Press and Broadcasting which was established by The Next Century Foundation, an NGO which works to facilitate political rapprochement in the Middle East through dialogue. The Awards are held in recognition of the vital role that the media can play in contributing to understanding, without which no peace process is possible. Each year the Next Century Foundation honours editors and journalists in this way.
